Welland H. Scripps

  • Board Member

Welland H. Scripps is an actor, director, teacher, and a musician. He is a graduate of Manhattanville College and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. He was a member of the Irondale Ensemble in Brooklyn for six years from 2008 and is a founding member of the Letter of Marque Theater Co., an avant garde theater company that writes and produces new work for non-traditional spaces, based in Brooklyn. Welland is also one of the founders and executive producers of Fat Maggie Productions.

Select theater credits include Tried by Pirates and Gifts (Letter of Marque), Angels in America and When the Rain Stops Falling (Stella Adler Studio of Acting), Macbeth Project, Peer Gynt, Cymbeline, Tape (Manhattanville College), Julius Caesar, Prepared Fresh, London Cries, Peter Pan (Irondale Theater Ensemble).

Welland introduced the Stella Adler Studio of Acting to the SHS Foundation, the sister foundation to the Samuel H. Scripps Foundation, which has been generously supportive of the studio and particularly the Lab Theater and Playwrights Division for the past three years. Welland’s participation with and involvement in the campaign for Theater for a New Audience’s permanent home in Brooklyn give him a wealth of direct experience and expertise in the ramifications of a capital campaign in New York City for a cultural not-for-profit.
