The Stella Adler Arts Justice Division provides free actor-training and transformative educational experiences to Los Angeles’ most severely underserved citizens.
Arts Justice aims to empower participating students through craft. In Los Angeles, this is achieved through three major partnerships with Five Keys Charter School and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD), Five Keys Charter School & Los Angeles LGBT Center, and with Phoenix House Academy.
In partnership with Five Keys Charter School and LASD, the Arts Justice Division serves incarcerated women at the Lynwood Correctional Facility and young adult men at the Pitchess Detention Center. Outreach works with Phoenix House Academy to provide a program for teens in alcohol and drug recovery and through Five Keys Charter School at the Covenant House Los Angeles, working with young adults ages 16-24 experiencing homelessness. Also in conjunction with Five Keys Charter School, the studio provides on-going programming at the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
The Arts Justice Division helps to fulfill the Studio’s mission to create an environment that nurtures theater artists who value humanity as their first priority by diversifying the student body and creating an environment for all students to become actors like Stella Adler and those in the Group Theatre — actors who are socially and consciously aware and whose awareness contributes to their ability to act passionately.
