Transportation
Should students look for a place close to AOA? Is a car needed? That’s up to each individual’s preference. LA is a car city, so parking can be problematic on certain days, such as during street cleaning, but a car could save students money if they choose to live outside of the Hollywood/West Hollywood area (Burbank/North Hollywood/Koreatown).

Los Angeles offers broad public transportation options, including subways, light rail, buses and shuttles. (LA public transport may receive undeserved negativity from time to time, but the AOA staff regularly use it.) Uber and Lyft rates are fairly affordable in the area, and BIRD and LIME scooters throughout the city are useful in a pinch. For students living in the area of Art of Acting Studio, anything less than a 30 minute walk is considered close and there is no need for a car.

Facebook Groups
Once accepted to the Studio, all incoming students have the option to join the AOA Community Facebook group, which is a helpful source of information from the student body and AOA alumni. Housing opportunities, including sublets, are frequently posted here.

Websites

Universal Student Housing logo

Universal Student Housing is an organization that has helped placed thousands of international students in comfortable homes since 1998.  In homestays, students have a private, furnished, room in a local family home. Homestay is a wonderful opportunity for international students to engage in American culture and learn English directly from an English-speaking family.  Families are conveniently located near schools and offer one of affordable meal plan options: Breakfast and Dinner, Breakfast only, or No meals (room only).  You can visit our website by clicking on the link below: www.ushstudent.com

AirBnB – can be useful to quickly find a temporary place to stay, or for short stays until a longer sublet or lease opens up.

Craigslist – AOA recommends that prospective students avoid for the time being if they haven’t yet located to Los Angeles. It can be difficult to confirm the place and person are legitimate from outside of the area. Do not venture into it before arriving and acclimating to LA.
